1971 – Daytona. When Chrysler partially withdrew from its factory racing program in 1971, Petty Enterprises went from running two cars to one, which forced Pete to find a new ride. He spent the ’71 season driving for Cotton Owens, a professional operation which however did not have the funding or ability to produce a truly competitive car.
