1971 – Stafford. Owing to a dispute with an unreasonable NASCAR in 1970, after that year the Garuti/Arute 14 and 28 never again ran in a NASCAR race. NASCAR’s bureaucratic reach did not however extend to All-Star Racing League events, and Ed was able to drive the 28 in the 1971 All-Star show at Stafford Springs. Photo by Howie Hodge.

34 – Studebaker
1960-02 – Here’s a picture of the Studebaker when it was still in Connecticut and in perfect condition before Ed and George towed it down to Daytona. I believe that they had put in the car a big V8 which had come out of a Cadillac. Photo courtesy of Susan Dombrowski.

The car was built by a group of people including Ed. The original intention was that it would be driven at Daytona by Benny Germano. Benny drove the car for a couple of laps, was unhappy with the experience, and bowed out of trying to qualify it. Ed then took his place and qualified in 13th (out of 75 that qualified and many more that failed to qualify). Photo courtesy of Susan Dombrowski.
