This car was originally run by “Black Jack” Dubrul, who sold it to Dooger Jones of Poultney VT. Don Miller Sr has said that he was told by the next owner, Stan Durrum, that Ed drove the car for Dooger at Malta. The driver in this photo is Russ Shaw.

1965-09-03. This was Ed’s car after a wreck at Malta that resulted in his fracturing a leg. Within two weeks, however, he was back racing.

1966 – Malta. This car was actually the #6x normally driven by Bob Vivari. On this occasion the black 2x coupe had suffered a blown engine, and Gene and Bob Judkins borrowed the 6x for the night. Ed drove Rene Charland’s #3 at Utica-Rome on May 8th, 1966, less than 3 weeks before Ed pulled Rene from the same car as it was engulfed in flames at Albany-Saratoga. Robert Clock informs us that Ed himself built this car for owner Ed Ackerman, who ran it first for Gene Gamache as #1 in 1964 and then, after Gene’s premature death in early 1965, renumbered it as #3 and ran it for Rene.

Rene Charland’s burning car sits just to the left of Ed’s ¢. At the moment this photo was probably taken, Ed was pulling Rene from his car.

At Utica-Rome on June 19th, 1966, after he had qualified his own car in the first heat, Ed qualified the #38 of late-arriving Jerry Cook in the second heat.
