1966 – 05-27 – Rene Charland fire, aka “The French Barbeque”. Ed, wearing a t-shirt and cotton trousers, ran across the track and reached into this burning wreck to pull out Charland and save his life. Ed was given the “NASCAR Heroism Award” for his bravery.

1966 – Malta. This car was actually the #6x normally driven by Bob Vivari. On this occasion the black 2x coupe had suffered a blown engine, and Gene and Bob Judkins borrowed the 6x for the night.
