1981 – Thompson 300. Note the way that, at the last minute, they put Ed’s name as driver on the door.

This photo was captioned as being from the 150-lap race at Martinsville on April 27, 1974, which Richie won and in which Ed finished 4th. However, in that race Ed actually drove the Art Barry #09 Capri. I am not aware of Ed’s ever driving Art’s Capri after its number was changed from 09 to 14.

This is not Ed in the car; probably Smokey Boutwell, who preceded Ed as its regular driver.

Fort Dix. The 21 coupe was built by Norm Kies. It was originally numbered “121”, nicknamed the “Red Ram”, and driven for Norm by Denny Zimmerman. In early 1962 Ed bought the car from Norm, changed the engine from Norm’s favored Mopar to a Chevy, re-numbered it “21”, and raced it very successfully in 1962 and ’63. Thanks to Bruce Cohen for the information.

1963-07-13 – Norwood win. The Norwood.com website had said that in 1963 Ed bought this car from Leo Cleary, who had raced it in 1962, but Ed Flemke Jr remembers that actually Ed Sr built it himself.
