This nice-looking car was owned and run by Greg Mills and Dave Welch. More than in most cars Ed drove during this period (mainly 1969), in the 79 Ed always seemed to have to struggle to be truly competitive. Nonetheless in the 79 Ed won against strong opposition at Stafford Springs and Norwood, and was leading in the latter stages of the Thompson 500 when a broken valve ended his race. Following his considerable success in the ¢ cars, which he had built and co-owned, midway through 1966 Ed built and owned the successor car, which he ran as the %. He raced it for only the second half of ’66 and on rare occasions in 1967, however, as starting in early ’67 he began to drive the 2x coupe on a full-time basis.
